The 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington

The 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington is coming up in August.  Do you know about this historic event?  It played an important role in bringing about the end of segregation in this country.  Learn about it on PBS.  PBS also has an interesting broadcast about the roots of the March on Washington.  You may know more about the March on Washington in relation to Martin Luther King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech.  Learn about it here.  The History Channel also has a detailed account of the march.

People will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the march on August 28, 2013.

School Supplies

I do not have an exact list from the sixth grade teachers, but I did contact one of them and get the basics.  These are the same basic items students will need for my class.  Here are some suggested items to start the school year with:

1.  Binder with dividers
2.  Binder paper
3.  Pencils and erasers
4.  Colored pencils (set of 12)
5.  2 spiral notebooks
6.  Ruler (metric and standard)
7.  A red pen
8.  Blue or black pens (sixth grade only)

Your teacher will likely pass out a school supply list on the first day of school.
