  1. Europeans explored North & South America for many reasons. Some countries wanted what was in the land. These included gold and silver, food, such as corn and pineapples, and tobacco. Others wanted to find the mythical "Fountain of Youth" and/or a new route to Asia. In other words, the Americas was a new and exciting place to the Europeans.
